Monel Is A Group Of Alloys That Primarily Consists Of Nickel And Copper With Trace
Amounts Of Iron, Manganese, Carbon, And Silicon. ASTM B865-04 K500 Monel Fasteners
Are A Precipitation Hardened Nickel - Copper Alloy. One Of The Advantages Of Using
The Alloy UNS N05500 Bolts Is That, The Alloy Is A Combination Of The Excellent
Corrosion Resistance As Characterized By The Monel 400 Alloy Along With The Added
Feature Of An Increased Tensile Strength And Hardness.
The yield strength of the Monel k500 Washers is almost three times more and the
tensile strength of the Monel k500 Nuts is almost two times more than Monel 400 even
at an elevated temperature of around 1200° F. Further, the tensile strength of these
Monel k500 Bolts can be enhanced by cold working the alloy before its precipitation
hardening.
When metals like aluminium and titanium are added to the nickel-copper base of the
alloy, the strength and hardness properties tend to get amplified. Apart from the
addition of these metals, thermally processing the Alloy k500 Bolts in order to
cause precipitation, or what is known as age hardening or aging. During age
hardening process, the alloy is heated at a controlled conditions, so the
sub-microscopic particles of Nickel ,Titanium as well as Aluminium get precipitated
throughout the matrix.
